To commemorate the life of actress Farrah Fawcett, WGN America will air a Charlie's Angels Marathon.
Her trademark hair and brilliant smile endeared the soft-spoken woman to millions of fans. Charlie’s AngelsFarrah Fawcett burst onto the public’s consciousness as Jill Munroe in the hit show Charlie’s Angels. She was one of the three main characters in the first season, from 1976 to 1977. She then left the show and the reason for her departure from the top-rated Aaron Spelling series has never been completely known. Speculation ranges from financial disputes to marital trouble to Farrah’s desire to work in motion pictures. She continued with the series in guest appearances through 1980. The show also starred Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson as the other two detectives working for a never-seen boss named Charlie. The three communicated with him via a speaker. With their famous hair and often scantily clad bodies, this was the first show to put women front and center in what was previously a man’s role on TV. Charlie’s Angels was the also the first show to be dubbed “Jiggle TV.” Farrah’s Battle with CancerWhen she was diagnosed with cancer in 2006 Farrah Fawcett bravely took on this battle, determined to beat the illness. She searched for treatments all around the world and ended up going to Germany for aggressive cancer therapy. The courageous woman chronicled her battle with cancer with the help of her longtime love Ryan O’Neal and her best friend Alana Stewart. By documenting her battle on videotape, Farrah was able to get her story to the public without any of the spinning that often accompanies stars’ stories in this time of pop culture frenzy. Farrah’s StoryFarrah’s Story aired earlier this year and was met with acclaim for her courageous battle as well as her willingness to publicize the horrific procedures she endured. Her ups and downs were chronicled. Farrah was too sick to work on the final product before it aired, so she asked O’Neal to take on this task.
